cmsetdsfgroup: Unable to Communicate with the Cluster Device Special File Daemon (iocdsfd)

Hi,

Something similar happened to me the other day, when I installed SG 11.20, it didn't add the iocdsfd daemon entry to inittab.

HP Serviceguard/HP-UX 11.31 - cmsetdsfgroup: Unable to Communicate with the Cluster Device Special File Daemon (iocdsfd)

Configuration :

HP-UX 11.31
Serviceguard A.11.20

root@rxh17u09:root# cmsetdsfgroup -n rxh17u09 -n rxh17u07
Command on node rxh17u07 failed: io_cdsf_config: Unable to communicate with the cluster device special file daemon(iocdsfd). Daemon may not be running.
Command on node rxh17u07 failed: io_cdsf_config: Unable to communicate with the cluster device special file daemon(iocdsfd).
Daemon may not be running. Cluster device file group configuration set to 'rxh17u09 rxh17u07'.
What is the cause of this problem?

Solution
iocdsfd is launched from /etc/inittab :
cdsf:23456:respawn:/usr/sbin/iocdsfd

However, the system identified in the failure message was not running in the default run level:
root@rxh17u07:root# who -r . run-level S Oct 27 08:37 S 2 1

So even manually starting the iocdsfd daemon did not solve the problem.

Rebooting the system brought the it to run level 3, and iocdsfd auto-started and was able to operate as expected.

root@rxh17u07:root# cmsetdsfgroup -v -n rxh17u09 -n rxh17u07
Gathering network information Beginning network probing (this may take a while) Completed network probing
Cluster device file group configuration set to 'rxh17u09 rxh17u07'.
